OFF
THE WATERFRONT is a one-hour documentary that examines the impact of a
waterfront development boom on one of the nation’s most diverse, economically
distressed cities, Jersey City, New Jersey. The film traces the origins of the
city’s decision to encourage development with corporate tax breaks and
giveaways, and will ask if the promise of jobs, tax relief and prosperity has
been realized for all.
Through the personal lens of the director, a recent waterfront resident,
OFF THE WATERFRONT illustrates how public funds subsidize the building bonanza,
and considers how developers, waterfront residents and the people beyond the
waterfront do -- and do not -- benefit from that development.
